Eyebrow House - Best Green Award
Winner - WHAT HOUSE? AWARD - BEST GREEN CONTRIBUTION This house has an eyebrow window to allow daylight to illuminate the master bedroom lobby. Eyebrow windows first appeared in English thatched cottages where small windows high in the wall necessitated a curve of the thatched eave over it. This house is in one of the first UK developments to use underfloor hearing, condensing boilers, recycled newsprint loft insulation and scandinavian high performance windows. For over 20 year Clifford Atkins has integrated sustainable design initiatives into their projects. This house scored an unprecedented National Home Energy Rating (NHER) of 9.2 out of 10. The rating is now measured from 0 to 20 with the average UK house scoring 5 out of 20.
